The Championnat de Tourisme created in 1976 produced the " Supertourisme " category in 1994, which disappeared six seasons later due to ever increasing budgets needed to run the cars. The rules were subsequently changed and the Championnat Silhouette started up in 2001, giving participants greater freedom in how the car was prepared: for the pretty Peugeot 406 coupé, it was a chance to demonstrate its potential on the track. The car offered was one of the first conceived to compete in the new championship. ORECA, the renowned preparer from Var, took on the task of building the competition car on a multi-tubular chassis. The relative flexibility of the new rules allowed various technical solutions that were very different to the production model, to the suspension, the engine or through the liberal use of fibreglass and carbon.
It was the specialist SODEMO who prepared the 3-litre V6 rear-positioned engine. With four overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, it produced 300 bhp, transmitted to the wheels through a six-speed sequential Hewland gearbox. It lined up on the starting grid in this format in 2001, driven by Eric Helary. The former winner of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race performed admirably, achieving three victories and finishing the season runner-up. The car competed until 2005, driven by William David and later André Cholley. Here is a superb example of these well-designed and superbly prepared cars with an enviable racing provenance.

With the new 406, which appeared in 1995, Peugeot sought to demonstrate that the saloon could not only perform well as a road car, but also on the track. The firm from Sochaux decided to try its hand in the rigorous German Championship. This is where the car we are offering first entered the scene. It was prepared to compete in the German Supertouring Championship for the 1997 season.
The chassis was built by Peugeot Sport: major work was carried out on the body with the installation of a multi-tubular roll cage, front and rear competition suspension and Brembo 8 piston disc brakes. Work on the engine was carried out by renowned preparer PIPO: the 2-litre block with aluminium head produced 310 bhp and was mated with a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The owner has told us that this 406 Supertourisme then made its debut in 1997, driven by Laurent Aïello, up against the official BMW and Audi entries. With jaw-dropping results: in its first season, the car won the coveted competition. The following year, it finished second in the SUDAM championship in Latin America, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio Junior (the nephew...). The car finished off an amazing career in the French Championnat Supertourisme, again performing with brio. This time, William David won the Championship title in 1999 and 2000.
Here is a genuine factory car, with an outstanding racing provenance that has shown it is capable of terrific performances. It deserves its place on the podium.

The Peugeot 405 was launched in 1987. It would take some years for the finalization of the FIA "Super Touring" category and it takes a while for the manufacturers to invest into developing car for this category. It was into the Italian Superturismo championship that the French carmaker decided to get into through its Italian subsidiary in 1993, and this was one of the cars. The engine of this 405 is a 2-liter 16-valver put together by OBIS and the engine develops a whopping 300bhp. The preparation of the body was entrusted to the famous Italtechnica outfit which prepares racing machines of the highest level, so much so that by season's end, Fabrizio Giovanardi, with this car, ranked second in the championship. Back in France for the subsequent season, it was another 405, in the hands of Laurent Aiello, that went on to win the Championship of France in 1994. The car then passed into the hands of drivers Masson and Giradot, who drove the car to the third place in the Coupe de France de Supertourisme. This 405 then kept being campaigned in subsequent seasons of the French Championship, till 1998 when it is campaigned by William David and David Hallyday. The car had a second life in the French Championship Touring Car B group with Arnaud Gomez at the wheel, with a win in 2001. Acquired by its current owner in 2002, this 405 Super Touring is now painted yellow, and is on offer in excellent condition, works perfectly well.
