Slammed 306 Rallye

Bericht door ben306 »

1st off would like to say sorry for coming onto your forum and only being able to speak english, but I really respect the work you are doing and the way it influences the UK scene.

I have seen the site advertised from a recent report in the UK mag Performance French Car so come over to have a look.

Ive seen some quality examples on this forum and would like to see your comments on my own car.

Bit of a story line for you to show where the rallyes come over the past year.

For starts, bought it may 2006, completely standard, had seen better days bodywork wise with most panels keyed and dented. But engine was a minter which is more what I was interested in as it was gonna get hammered. About half of these engines suffer from 'snappers' where the cam belt has gone, common fault with failing belts and cheap rebuilds resulting in rubbish engines.

Anyhow, pretty much as I bought it, standard. 167bhp, 6 speed box, one of only 500 rallyes ever produced (only 200 in white) and there aint to many of these left.

That very weekend, I fitted the single wiper
Afbeelding

Then 3 hours later I had lowered it 60mm all round on puma springs, Gmax shocks up front and Avo shocks rear (with the help of a mate, Ricky P doing the torsion bar)
Afbeelding

Next it was into the bodyshop to get all the tatty panels sorted, all the scratches out, colour coding of all the black rubstrips and the like, and mirrors on.

Fitted the Magnex Group N system, De-cat and induction kit. Also fitted the raceland bucket seats and Sparco 3 point harnesses.
Afbeelding

FCS 2006 was 2 weeks later from buying it, and was straight on the track with it
Afbeelding
Afbeelding

Was awesome and defo a quality track motor.

Then put my new rims on after doing the track time!
Afbeelding
Afbeelding

Decided it was time to stip it a little, but meant the back end went up a little without the extra weight in it
Afbeelding
Afbeelding

I managed to source some phase 3 crystal headlights, and I smoothed and debaged the bonnet and grille
Afbeelding

Then had another track day, this time at mallory park, good little track but decided the car wasnt up to the stick I was giving it in brakes and handling!
Afbeelding

So suspension setup got changed with uprated mounts, and fully adjustable GAZ shock set up. Also dropped it more to suit my style and also to suit the look I wanted.
Afbeelding

Now it was sitting 80mm up front and 100mm at back with a completely new setup. which works very well
To give you an idea, thats next to a standard 306
Afbeelding

One of the regular drives up the the lakes for the weekend, blast on some proper roads, just as you should
Afbeelding
Afbeelding
Afbeelding

few more trackdays and that, decided to remove my middle box and go straight through to improve ground clearence and also made a sump guard up as Id managed to smash a sump or too.

Also having problems keeping the oil temp at a safe working temp so fitted a cooler
Afbeelding

Then decided on new seats and harnesses, and stripped it some more!
Afbeelding
Afbeelding

Time for race/rallye spec doorcards so again got busy making some up
Afbeelding

And give the whole underside a treating and clean up
Afbeelding

Its also been on the rollers, producing 181bhp at the fly and since Ive fitted the forced cold air inductiong kit and had a map fitted to fit the mods
Afbeelding
Afbeelding

Then smoothed the boot
Afbeelding

To give you an idea of the stick I give it since owning it in just over a year, Ive done 30k in it and gone through 4 sets of front discs, 2 sets of rear discs, 3 sets of rear pads and 5 sets of front pads (all these uprated). Full set of suspension, several pair of front bushes and rear bushes (again uprated). lots of tyres and serveral driveshafts.
3 wheel refurbs from staining the wheels from v high temp brakes on the track, this is after a track day, and after washing the wheels, that 'red' caliper paint is rated 1500C temp and Ive burnt the pigment out of it.

Afbeelding
Fresh cover of powder coat .... Again
Afbeelding

These where brand new and after a half day at Mallory park on a track day
Afbeelding

And more recently the 'Malteser induction kit' lol

Afbeelding
Afbeelding

cheers, yeah, is good to see the cross over between the euro style that yourselves have produced, and the uk, stripped, track style that seems to be appearing.

Is your the 306 estate that was in the PFC mag not so long ago? If so, a very nice example I must say
